3 December 2025 – The European project uBlueTec has launched its new Green Skills MOOC, a free and multilingual online course designed to equip young people and professionals with essential competences for a more sustainable blue economy. Developed and led by WWF Portugal, the course combines green, digital and blue skills, with a strong focus on how underwater technologies can support innovative solutions to marine environmental challenges.

A MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) is an accessible digital learning format that allows anyone to learn at their own pace, without tuition fees or formal admission requirements. By blending videos, interactive content and practical activities, the Green Skills MOOC offers high‑quality learning opportunities in multiple languages, reaching audiences across Europe and beyond.

This course responds to the increasing pressures facing the ocean as the climate crisis accelerates changes in marine ecosystems. It aims to help learners understand the challenges ahead and the emerging solutions needed to support a resilient and sustainable blue economy. The content provides a clear and engaging introduction to sustainability, conservation and underwater technology, highlighting the growing importance of these areas in the future of work.

The course is organised into six modules that guide participants from the fundamentals of the climate crisis and sustainability to biodiversity conservation, active citizenship, developing action projects and designing sustainable underwater technology solutions. It is suited for students exploring blue‑economy career paths, professionals seeking new green and digital skills, and anyone motivated to contribute to ocean protection. The MOOC is fully online, free, self‑paced and accessible to learners with different backgrounds and levels of experience.

The Green Skills MOOC is part of uBlueTec’s broader effort to reshape blue economy education in Europe. The project has already developed more than 30 courses and delivered 37 training pilots that combine theoretical learning with practical, real‑world experience, supporting students, young researchers, professionals and trainers working in underwater technology and sustainability.

The MOOC is now available online. More information and access to the course can be found at: https://ubluetec.eu/discover-the-ubluetec-green-skills-mooc/
