Led by Aix-Marseille University (AMU), this summer school took place from 9 to 23 June 2024 as part of the uBlueTec project. Over five days of intensive learning, 35 participants – including master’s and PhD students, as well as biodiversity conservation stakeholders –explored the governance and management of Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) through a socio-ecosystem approach.
The program addressed biodiversity loss, ecosystem vulnerability, fisheries management, marine pollution, and climate change, combining classroom lectures with field trips to the Calanques National Park.
Participants examined technical, legal, and political tools for conservation at local, regional, and international scales, gaining insights into the long-term and day-to-day challenges of MPA management.
By linking theory with practical observation, this pilot strengthened the capacity of future professionals to design and implement effective marine conservation strategies.
