Led by Aix-Marseille University (AMU), this course was delivered on 26 November 2024 in Aix-en-Provence as part of the uBlueTec project. Twenty-seven participants explored the climate-driven threats facing coastal and underwater cultural heritage.
The session introduced ocean literacy concepts and the objectives of the UN Ocean Decade, before examining the impacts of rising sea levels, coastal erosion, ocean acidification, and extreme weather events on submerged archaeological sites and artefacts.
Through case studies and scientific projections, students gained a deeper understanding of how climate change accelerates deterioration processes and challenges conservation strategies worldwide. This pilot reinforced uBlueTec’s commitment to equipping future professionals with the knowledge and skills needed to address environmental risks and safeguard maritime heritage in a changing climate.
