Under the scope of the European project uBlueTec, which is testing and validating innovative educational modules for the blue economy, Aix-Marseille University piloted a one-day course in Aix-en-Provence focused on coastal erosion and landscape analysis using GIS tools. This initiative aimed to provide students with practical and theoretical knowledge to understand how natural processes and climate change impact coastal and underwater cultural heritage.
The training combined classroom lectures with a field visit to the ancient port of Fréjus, offering participants a hands-on experience in analyzing coastal dynamics. Students learned to identify and interpret processes such as cliff erosion, sea-level rise, and extreme weather events, and to assess their effects on archaeological sites. They also practiced applying GIS for risk mapping and landscape analysis, linking global climate trends to local heritage management challenges.
By pairing technical skills with real-world case studies, this piloting reflects uBlueTec’s commitment to equipping future professionals with the tools to address environmental risks and safeguard cultural heritage in vulnerable coastal zones.
