As part of the European project uBlueTec, which is testing and validating innovative educational modules for the blue economy, Aix-Marseille University participated in a CIVIS Blended Intensive Program (BIP) focused on natural processes and climate risks. This pilot aimed to raise awareness about geological diversity, volcanic hazards, and climate variability in the Eastern Mediterranean, while introducing students to advanced tools for environmental monitoring.
The program combined online lectures with a five-day summer school on Nisyros Island, Greece, where participants engaged in experiential workshops and field observations. Students explored volcanic geomorphology, tectonic structures, and climate-related hazards, gaining hands-on experience with high-tech instruments such as ROVs, thermal drones, and environmental sensors. These activities allowed them to measure, analyze, and interpret geological and climatic data in real-world conditions.
By integrating theory with practical fieldwork, this piloting reflects uBlueTec’s commitment to equipping future professionals with the skills to address climate risks and environmental challenges in coastal and marine contexts.
